Daily Memphian: Former Memphis Tigers golfer wins MGA City Amateur championship

Matt Cooper finished at 3-over-par 145 to win the 2024 Memphis Golf Association City Amateur.

Cooper shot 76 Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Memphis Country Club, but his 69 Tuesday at Spring Creek Ranch in Collierville paved the way for a one-stroke victory over runner-up Ben Fisher.

Cooper, 45, took a one-stroke lead into the two-round tournament’s second round. He also won the tourney, which was first played in 1914 and counts three-time PGA Tour majors winner Dr. Cary Middlecoff among its past champions, in 2014.
